Get to Know Me

My name is Katerina Weingarten and I currently live in Upstate New York with my miniature dachshund, Oakley!

I have a passion for the agriculture industry and love helping agricultural operations and small businesses achieve their business goals through strategic marketing and communications efforts.

My Background

While I am a generation removed from agriculture, I quickly found my own passion in the industry. Growing up, I was active in both 4-H and FFA, which provided me with many incredible opportunities.

I graduated from the State University of New York at Cobleskill with a degree in Agricultural Business Management in May 2020. During my time at SUNY Cobleskill, I was a member of Block and Bridle, National Agri-Marketing Association/Agricultural Business Club, Livestock Judging Team, and volleyball and softball teams. Participating in each of these teams and organizations provided me with incredible opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

My Educational Journey

I have always enjoyed being creative and enjoyed writing in particular. Taking a technical communications course at SUNY Cobleskill helped solidify my decision to pursue a career in communications and apply to graduate school.

When I began my course work and assistantship with the Department of Brand Management at Oklahoma State, I thought I would primarily be interested in writing. I quickly learned I also enjoy web design, graphic design, social media management, photography and digital strategy development. The experience I gained through my work with the Department of Brand Management and course work has allowed me to become a well-rounded communicator.

My Research

To fulfill my thesis research requirements, I conducted research exploring how small agricultural businesses in Upstate New York are using social media and other forms of online communication. My research revealed a significant need for assistance with digital marketing strategy and online communication among small agricultural businesses.

My thesis research was recently published in the Journal of Applied Communications, read my journal article here.
